Contact us Volunteers Core Values

Alaska Backcountry Ministries started in 2005 when six young people from Anchorage came together with the same vision: to use the wilderness as a tool for faith development of young people. Representing Lutheran, Presbyterian, and Covenant denominations, we spent the first year figuring out how we could best fulfill our mission, and began making relationships with local churches. Since that time, we've led numerous trips in the backcountry and have seen the profound effects a journey through the wilderness can have on the spirituality of youth and adults.

We are an entirely volunteer-run organization. We all take time off in the summer from our "real jobs" to guide trips, and meet to conduct other ABM business in our spare time.

As a 501(c)(3) entity, we are able to accept tax-deductible donations.
